Welcome Back

We’re back, and I am so excited!  Today I welcomed a new sixth grade class.  The first day of school brings mixed emotions- happiness to see friends yet anxiety-not knowing what to expect.  Today the students learned all about the expectations.

The half day of school was spent on PBIS- Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports. PBIS is a program implemented in order to reduce disciplinary incidents and promote a climate of greater productivity, learning, safety, and kindness.

Students interacted with various teachers and each other in order to learn the expectations of our middle school.

Activities throughout the day included expectations for the:

  • Cafeteria
  • Bathroom
  • Technology
  • Attendance/Dress Code
  • Classroom
  • Being a Productive Student
  • Organization

Also, students were introduced to their Guidance Counselor.

Today was a wonderful way to introduce the students to their new school.  It is always important to introduce the students to what is expected of them right from the start.

Below is a video that sums up some of the learning today! (A special thank you to our World Language Teacher for showing it)

Remember to  BE MORE AWESOME and GET YOUR LEARN ON!

Good Luck to a successful school year!

Think about this:  What do you want to teach the world?

  1. Hello,
This is exactly how our school started. Except we are in eight grade so we were already use to the schedule. The school year has been going very good this year. First quarter is now done which I am glad to see because there is only 3 more quarters to go. How is your school year going so far? Come visit my blog at http://www.anthonyesblog.edublogs.com.

    • Our school year seems to be flying by- tomorrow ends the first quarter. Starting our year off with PBIS was wonderful. Setting the expectations for the year is very important! We will visit your blog.

  2. Dear Mrs. Emerick and class,
Your post about how your students put messages on students lockers and on the teachers doors was inspirational. If we had lockers at our school I would definitely suggest doing that.
I want to teach the world that it is ok to be different and you should never be afraid to be yourself. I would also teach the world to be thankful for all the things you have and never be greedy because even though you do not have the latest iPad or iPhone you probably have a lot more than other children in the world do. One of my favorite quotes is “You should never take more than you give.” from the “Lion King”.
Do you and your class have any favorite quotes? Do those quotes inspire you?
