What’s Happening in Our Class

We are so excited for the start of the 2012-2013 school year.  It is important to keep the lines of communication open.  We may not have gotten a chance to talk to each of you on Open House, so we wanted to make sure everyone had access to information about our daily routines and basic information about reading and language arts.

Course Expectations:  sixth grade course expectations

Homework:  Homework is assigned nightly (Monday-Thursday).  Students are expected to read 20 minutes a night and fill out the reading log.  Language Arts changes nightly- writer’s notebook entry, grammar or spelling activities, or editing/revising drafts.   Please check classwebs (found on the Bethel Middle School Home Page under academic clusters) nightly- to see the homework.  Also, homework is posted in the classroom and students are expected to fill out their agenda pads.

Grading:  Students will be graded on homework (check plus-100, check- 85, check minus- 70), classwork, quizzes and tests.  Also, students will have a preparation and participation grade- it includes making sure all materials have been brought to class.

Collaboration:  Students will be expected to work together.  Groupings will change throughout the year.  We ask that while working with classmates, students show respect towards each other.  At times, students may not be working with their friends, but we expect them to get along and accomplish the task at hand without hurt feelings.

Extra Help:  Extra help is available Tuesdays after school.  In addition to after school help, before school and lunch help is available for students.  If a structured study environment is needed, there is Homework Hall- Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.  Teachers are available to assist students in the Media Center during this time.
